30 Minute Sushi Recipe
Sushi can be difficult and intimidating to make at home but Sushi AmericanaTM makes it fun, simple and tasty. Remember, sushi is simply "seasoned rice" and has nothing to do with seaweed or raw fish. Origami's easy three step sushi recipe takes just 30 minutes and contains only ingredients that you can find in your kitchen cabinets or local grocery store.
Ingredients
2 Cups short grain rice
4 Tbs rice vinegar
2 Tbs Sugar
2 tsp salt
2.5 Cups water
Instructions
Place your rice and water in a heavy pot (with lid secured tightly) and bring to a boil before letting it simmer until water is absorbed (about 18 minutes).
While your rice is cooking, bring vinegar, sugar and salt to a boil in a separate saucepan, remove from heat and set aside.
Once rice is cooked, remove it from heat and place in a non-metallic bowl with vinegar mixture.
Tips:
The rice will be extremely hot when you remove the lid from your pot. Be careful not to burn yourself when working with the rice!
Depending on the rice you buy, you may need to rinse it with water prior to cooking. The package will alert you if this is necessary.
If you prefer. you can "fold" seasoning into rice, but make sure you never "stir" the rice.
While the rice is cooking, it's a good time to prepare any other ingredients you'll need for your rolls. Check out or recipe page for some quick, easy and fun combinations.
If you want to keep the rice from drying out if you don't plan to use it right away, simply place your pot on a trivet and cover with a damp towel.
While this has been tried and tested many times over, once you get the hang of it (and we're willing to bet that won't take long), feel free to customize the method to suit your own cooking style.
Now that you've rocked your sushi, your ready to ROLL it!
